Save Money with these Little-Known Eco-Friendly Tips

Brooke Graham • Mar 31, 2021

When it comes to protecting the environment, we all like to do our part, especially to save money! We have compiled this list of some of the most helpful yet least-known energy-saving tips. Many of them are easy enough for you to do yourself! Check it out!

Low-Flow Appliances

Especially if your home is slightly older, look into upgrading your appliances. Recent tech advances provide options for low-flow showerheads, toilets, faucets, washing machines, and more! Replacing even a few of these can significantly reduce your water usage and thus lower your utility bills as well!

Outdoor Entry Points

Although this is a bigger deal in the winter, ensure your doors and windows are properly sealed. You may have heard it said, or even said yourself, "We're not paying to heat the neighborhood!" when someone leaves the front door open. However, you may be doing just that even when your door is closed! Check to see if you can feel air coming in through the cracks around your doors or windows, especially if you have a wood door, since cracks in the wood may be a culprit. Thankfully, you can usually fix these issues by simply installing weather stripping around the door or caulking the window. After applying these tips, you may be surprised how much easier it is to regulate the temperature in your home!

Tankless Water Heater

Although this requires a bit more professional help, installing a tankless water heater has saved homeowners a great deal of money. This green alternative electronically heats your home's water on an as-needed basis. Although the up-front cost is quite a bit higher, many consumers report more than 30% energy savings with the new system. If it is in your budget, consider this eco-friendly option for your home.

Solar-Powered Driveway Gate

If you have an automated gate to welcome guests onto your lovely property, consider operating it via solar power. Technology has now advanced to the point where you can install a solar panel to host a zero-energy gate. This is an excellent choice for any home that reduces energy consumption as well as provides a level of security.

Green Landscaping

There are several benefits to having a landscape full of gorgeous plantings and trees. Not only is it beautiful, but if you choose pollinator-friendly plants and flowers, your yard could become a haven for bees, birds, and other critters that can benefit. Larger bushes and trees can provide privacy and increase the amount of clean oxygen for you to breathe while relaxing in your yard. Taking care of your landscape has multiple benefits for both you and the environment!

If you want to reduce your energy consumption, these tips are a great place to start! If you want a bit more than simple landscaping, give us a call, and we would be happy to discuss your landscape possibilities!
